Lac Rose ,more known under the name of lake Pink.Being to approximately 30 km in the North-East of the Dakar capital, it is one of the most visited sites peninsula of Ccape Verde. In the vicinity of the lake, many campings accomodate the visitors.

It is a small,in-land salt water lake whose concentrations of minerals and the presence of micro-organisms make the water turn pink with the mauve according to the intensity of the solar rays and also with the Paris-Dakar rally of which it constitutes the ultimate stage.The salt accumulates at the bottom of the lake in crystals which are harvested by people who wade in the shallow waters to fill their small boats.

According to the season and hours, the lake turns more or less pinks or mauves. The men sank until the height,pull out the salt from the ground and pile up it in pirogues while the women and the body coated with shea butter,carry it to the bank.

Night and day, hundreds of people extract salt from the Lac Rose, each litre contains 380 grams of them. Each heap carries a distinctive mark which identifies its owner.It will be used to salt fish and will be sold in the bordering countries.
